He has great experience in politics, but is not currently engaging in political activities.
In the mid-nineties, politics made him put his interest in business on the back burner. At that time, German Sterligov led an active political life.
In 1996, he was elected marshal of the Moscow nobility. In 1998, he headed the leadership of the "Word and Action" ("Russian House") all-Russian, social, political movement. Concepts such as patriotism and Russian orthodoxy served as the cornerstones of his programme.
In 2001 he virtually began preparing himself for nomination as candidate for the post of Russian President.
In 2002, he stood as a candidate for governor of the Krasnoyarsk region, and in 2003 put forward his application as candidate for the post of Mayor of Moscow. In 2004, the Central Election Commission refused outright to register him as a candidate for the post of Russian President.
